Man Booker Challenge

Of course the brilliant and funny Dewey had to host another challenge this year. So, of course, I signed up for it. For the Man Booker Challenge you have to read 6 books that have won the prize, was short-listed, or long-listed. This challenge is also for the whole year of 2008 and you can change your books at any time. My list:

1. The Gathering - Anne Enright

2. Vernon God Little - DBC Pierre

3. Life of pi - Yann Martel

4. Arthur & George - Julian Barnes

5. Never let me go - Ali Smith

6. On Beauty - Zadie Smith

a wee mistake there, i'm afraid. never let me go is by kazuo ishiguro (shortlisted for the booker in 2005), running against ali smith's the accidental. both lost to john banville's the sea, which was a shame really.

Thank you so much. You are right. How is it I didn't see that? I've heard that The Sea isn't the best book to read, so now I'm afraid to read it.

well, no arguments there against the sea not being all that jazz. when i read the plot description it almost bored me to death, so that one is out of my list :) zadie smith's on beauty is most definitely a good choice. and i can't praise ali smith enough :)

gotta love hotel world! its first pages were some of the best i've ever read. you should also try her other works, never read anything by her i didn't enjoy. it's high quality literature. and speaking of which, just finished girl meets boy and it was very... i guess i can say poetic.
